I created this promo as part of my responsibilities as graphic designer for Volunteer Peterborough. The goal of the video was to raise awareness of this new matchmaking site for non-profits and charities in the Peterborough & Kawarthas area to connect with volunteers. I was solely responsible for all production including shooting, interviewing, graphics, animation, compositing, sound design and the final deliverables. A 2 minute and 30 second version was also created.
Process:
Script-writing began with my colleague Julie Morris and was centered around leveraging the wealth of positive testimonials that we received from the first volunteer fair we ran in May 2024. We first established a duration of the video that would include the interview testimonials and built the promo around them. Another important aspect of this promo was to effectively explain and visualize, both to organization reps and volunteers, the way that Volunteer Peterborough's site works to connect volunteers with organizations. We included a section that animated the basic function of the site and how both volunteers and organizations could select from a list of potential jobs and applicants.
I started the production process by storyboarding and designing the animated section to both match the functionality of the website as well as clearly guide the viewer through the concept. Instead of just relying on a screen-recording of the actual website I wanted to create a more visual walkthrough to keep the viewer engaged and communicate the concept clearly. Because the promo was directed to both volunteers looking for opportunities as well as organizations looking to recruit volunteers I included prominent buttons twice in the animation showing both options for utilizing the website.
Another aspect of this video was to speak to our ideal client to sign up for an account on the website. Our ideal customer avatar at Volunteer Peterborough is a frustrated, overworked volunteer coordinator who has trouble finding new recruits for their organization. To target this
